This is the most frequently ordered among hospital diets. It is also called as full house, normal, or general diets. The preferred term is "Regular Diet".
Aim:
To bring and maintain a person in a state of nutritive sufficiency. This diet is also used as a basis for planning therapeutic diets and it should be practiced to serve simply prepared foods. Finally, it is designed to maintain optimal nutritional status and follows the principles of good meal planning and permits the use of all foods.
Characteristics:
Consist of all foods eaten by a person in health but required food menu planning.
Indications for Use:
Feeding Administration:
About 5 to 6 feeding a day which includes Breakfast, Lunch, and Supper with 2 snacks morning/afternoon or 1 evening snacks.
Foods Allowed:
All food are allowed but is sound practice to serve simply prepared foods.
Foods to be Avoided:
Those foods that are highly spicy, rich fatty, and gas forming foods.
