FIRST. The driver must be always aware or rather always keep your presence of mind.
SECOND. Aside from awareness of the driver, the "TIRE GRIP" will also help you a lot. Tire depth should be atleast 1.65mm over 3/4 of the tire tread. Your tire shouldn't be that old enough that will contribute more on the slippery of snow.
THIRD. Tire pattern is also a factor in getting some grips. So if your tire pattern has a lot of flat rubber areas then get rid of those.
FOURTH. Buy some "Winter Tires". These tires performs really well on snow as they are built for this kind of condition. These winter tires can fit to your spare rims so that you could replace it again and can be kept for another winter.
FIFTH. Driver should learn to adapt on the condition he/shes driving.
